I have no doubt that this has been covered here before, but I can't seem to find it despite all my searching.

Can someone please detail how to remove and re-attach the plastic liner from my tweeter sheath so I can heat and press it to eliminate the rattle?

Thanks, Beckerheads!

It should have two plastic tabs on either side that sewn into the side stitching on the sheath. You will need to remove that stitching to pull the liner out, or cut the tabs while still inserted into the sheath.

I seem to remember a couple of threads about modded tweener sheaths that detailed the process, you might want to search for those.

I wonder if you could just boil the entire sheath without removing the liner. All you need is the plastic hot enough to mold.

Not sure about this

That thought had occurred to me. I don't know anything about how much heat the nylon will sustain before it distorts - especially under the pressure used to reshape the plastic.

I would be loathe to attempt it unless someone can tell me that it can be done.

To stop the rattle all you need to do is pinch the middle of the plastic on the flats.

My daughter's 16 has a bit of rattle to it too, and I asked her recently if she wanted me to fix it.

She said, "No Dad, it's talking to me, telling me it's always there, always with me."

That was too cool for me to retort, so....

I'm pretty sure you can do the sheath boiling thing without any adverse effects. If not, I am sure there are several spares floating around that could be sent your way if it goes all pear shaped. I could probably launch one your direction if that were to happen. I say go for it.

^^ That's all the motivation I need! As soon I get someplace with an kitchen, I'll give it a try. . . Or maybe I'll just see what the microwave in my hotel room is really capable of
