How do you do this?

I'm not able to remove the scales from an aluminum ZT 0770 for deassisting. I open the blade and remove all of the screws on the ZT side. Yet the scale still does not budge at all. Even when I use a small rubber hammer to tap the scale off. Nothing. What am I missing? Are there other parts that need to be removed or tweaked or am I just not pushing apart hard enough?

The one video I found of someone deassisting the knife says it works deassisted, instructs on everything, and then skips over how to do it (despite them saying it's hard... why would you not show people how to do the hard part on an instructional video???? anyways...).

Also while we're at it, I assume removing the torsion bar will remove the squeaking noise I get every time I close the knife?

Every time I pull apart my 770, I leave the pocket clip side alone and remove the presentation side of the scales only. Just make sure to leave the steel liner piece in, at least on the CF I had to leave it in for the washers to have a smoother surface to contact.

The hard part is getting it all centered during the reassembling. It can be a bit of a pain, but it is worth it. My CF770 works fine deassisted and that isn't common with the CF models.

I'm going to guess that this is your first attempt to disassemble a knife - they don't always just fall apart in your hand when you take the screws out. I'll admit that I've never had a reason to disassemble my 0770; but there doesn't appear to be anything unusual about it. I recommend starting with the blade open (if for no other reason than you don't want to let the blade fly open after you've removed the screws). There are a couple of ways to break the handles loose; but I usually unlock the blade and rotate it down while lightly holding the handle - that usually results in them popping apart.

You can use the lock for exerting pressure on the pivot area as stated above, use a butter knife to reach into the body and twist it lightly to put a lifting pressure on places you can't reach (careful, the aluminum might get marred by the steel butter knife).

You just have to think outside of the box and try to put pressure in places you can't readily get to, if you are having a hard time.

Just don't bend/break anything. If You think you are going too hard, then stop.

thanks guys. looks like i just wasn't going hard enough. i didn't want to go too harder in case there was another screw or something i forgot (breakage).

I don't own the aluminum version but the CF one. I had a similar experience that the scale did not come off easily when disassembling it for the first time.
