How to remove the black coating of a Becker

I've been searching thorugh the forum and it seems that the best way to do it is to use acetone. Is it true? Does it do the job without damaging the blade? Any particular advice? Do you have any pictures of a knife (a BK7 or BK10, possibly) with the black coating removed? Thanks.

I used a spray-on paint remover. Let it sit overnight and it scraped right off. Buffed a little with steel wool and that was it. You can sand it off but it's a lot more work, don't bother.

I used Goof-Off on my Becker Necker, and a green scrubbie, lots of elbow grease. Worked great. I now have a becker necker with an oak handle and brass pins, perfectly balanced, it's a lot more useful to me now.

Why would you want to remove the coating?

It's the only thing I don't really like about that knife. Plus, I believe that the "naked" blade without the coating will look great since it's not shiny and smooth. ;)

I didn't even think about sanding it off, I would be too afraid to damage the steel. Paint remover sounds just right. And a lot of elbow grease, of course. :) Thanks.

The more powerful paint/epoxy strippers will basically take that coating right off with some soak time with little handwork, other than scraping off the loose coating with a metal scraper.

I'm trying to imagine what the blade looks like without the coating, I think I've seen a picture of a "naked" Becker here on the forum but I can't find it now. Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on a Crewman to start working. :)
