Just got mine in the mail today via trade and was wondering the same thing. You could probably get it off using two sets of pliers and unscrewing them--assuming they are threaded (although you could damage the stud this way). If you do manage to get it off, I'd love to know how. By the by...who's doing the polishing? Are you doing it yourself or sending it off?

They suggest you don't do it. The thumbstud acts as the positive stop for the knife and isn't supposed to be removed. If you couldn't get the thumbstud back on very securely you could ruin the knife.

Quite right, the studs are not intended to be removable.
I would advise you to call CRKT before you would try to remove them anyway. If they are pressed into hot blade you probably couldn’t remove them without blade ruining and certainly couldn’t put them back.

What about electro-chemical polishing? I’m not too knowledgeable in this matter but I have heard it works on much more accomplished surfaces (if I’m not missing something)...

Bad idea etc etc, will invalidate any warranty in all likelyhood and so on.

A standard pair of pliers and a leatherman works for me with ambidextrous studs. Just grip one stud firmly with one set of jaws and rotate the other stud anti-clockwise (standard screw thread, usually the left (looking from above the knife) screws into the right). When you're done polishing the blade, put a drop of loctite on them when you screw them back together.

Although they've probably been loctited in the factory, most of them are removable.

Hi

it is done.

The studs had to be destroyed, but luckily another member of our www.MesserForum.net made new ones.
Blade polished by a knifemaker www.69nord.at
I blued the new studs with good old "Gun Blue".

EDIT:
I just posted about a tuned up PlanB at the Gallery,

:)

Are there any vendors of replacement studs, or do you basically have to get them made special?

Thanks
