I might be getting a slightly used ZT 0301. The price is right but I don't care for the stripes. How easy or how would I go about removing the stripes? I don't have the knife in front of me yet and being able to remove the stripes will be the reason for me getting it. Is this something I can do with simple tools or do I have to have it blasted or something similar done?

If you get it blasted make sure the person knows what they are doing or you might get a blade that does not fit anymore. You could try sandpaper but it might take a long time to get the finish you want, there's also a lot of detail work that would need to be done because of the blade shape.

There is a member here though that may be able to help you out. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=634749&highlight=media+blasted

I personally prefer the look of a hand-rubbed satin finish. Use various grits of sandpaper (start with 220-ish) backed with a block. Wrapping some flexible copper with sandpaper will allow you to get into hollow grinds.

There's a lot of info in Shop Talk.

If you decide to do it yourself id be real interested in seeing the result. Ive thought about removing stripes too.

I figure I'll go ahead and get it, and then TRY to do it myself. Ill post pics after.
