Hi guys.... I recently bought a knife where the previous owner tied a lanyard in the lanyard hole and after I took it off I noticed there is some fraying on the micarta. Right at the edge of the hole it almost looks like thread. Is there a way to repair that?

I'd lightly bevel the hole using a sharp pointed knife and hope this would shave the fuzz off. DM

I would get a sharpened pencil or a narrow pen, wrap the cone end with some 400-600 grit sandpaper and have at it!

Try a bit of paste wax first. If its minor that might be enough to fix it.
If that doesn't work I'd try sanding or cutting, then wax.

It's very minor, but just enough to bug me. I'm afraid trying to cut it or sanding it would make it worse. Would a very very small dab of superglue work? Perhaps with a sewing needle. I thought about using a lighter kinda like how you would burn off frayed ends on paracords but that's kinda iffy. Thanks for the response so far.

Super glue will leave a spot. Do you have any car wax? Vaseline might do the trick in a pinch.

Sounds like wax is the way to go. I'll try to get my paws on some and give it a shot. Thanks everyone.

if it is only very minor chances are it was like that from the beginning? might have happened upon drilling the hole? i think i would leave it alone - but if you try some car wax get some swisswax to do the knife justice!
