Could do with some advice, please....
I'm repairing an old kukri; while the knife part of things is going ok, the next probem will be how to see to fixing its sheath.
The wood seems to be no problem, but the leather has a 3" or so split on the blade side. It was overall quite thin to start, with and has lost some patches of its smooth surface (worn off by the look of it).
The leather has also become rather dried out, much as one would expect.
So what is the best way of treating and repairing the sheath?

(I'll need to make a frog for it as well, but at least that will be using new or newish materials.)

I don't know the "best" way. And it depends on what you're going for. Authenticity matter to you? The options run the gamut from a simple oiling and letting it stay as is (authentic) to removing the old leather and putting on new stuff. Or, you can just patch it with some duct tape... If you're gonna oil it, get some mink oil.

Bri-in-Chi is the best at these processes.
