How to reprofile a point

I have an old round hole AFCK that has been sharpened so much the back of the blade has taken a bit of recurve which is a good thing but the point has been much rounded over by me. The thing is razor sharp and I love the ergos of the knife although am thinking of some traction grooves as stated in another thread. However I digress. I would like to know how to reprofile the tip to be more pointed. It still pierces well enough though. I have a lansky diamond kit with most of the popular hones. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome as always. Keep'em sharp

This often works well with a sanding block. Having broken off the very tip of the 806D2 (another part of the AFCK family), I restored it by sanding away between where the tip should be and the belly of the blade. Started at a higher angle (close to 70 degrees per side  ) until the tip was formed and then thinned out the edge where it had been blunted to form a tip. The initial result will look like a tanto point, but that will round out with continued resharpenings.

You can avoid rounding the tip by not letting the blade tip slide off of the hone. When the tip is brought over the edge of a hone, the very last moment of contact, the tip slides off the edge and down slightly, thus rounding the point. At least, that's what is often the culprit. If you normally drag the blade off of the hone, then try stopping your stroke while the tip is still in contact with the hone. You'll have a very sharp point that will not disappear.

Good luck!

Well i did it. I used a smooth file, a diamond coarse stone and a med. grit small stone. One thing you have to absolutely be careful of is sliding alongside the blade and then off the tip and running the frigging point into your middle finger tip. Super glue did come in very handy indeed.

Turned out decent with definetly a pointier type point on it and stouter to boot. thanks for all the info and keep'em sharp
