I get a great deal of useful and altogether excellent infromantion out of this forum and would like to "give back" a bit with some reviews of my own. What do you think makes a great review? How do you evaluate knives? Is there a tried and true check list that the majority of users swear by? What medium do you use to test edge retention, sharpness, etc?
Thanks for the help; I'll try to get some reviews out following the advice that's given:thumbup:

I don't need to know how many times you can hit a pocket knife with a hammer into cement before it breaks. I don't need caliper readings down to
.001". How does it work on bagels and boxes? Did you need diamond hones to sharpen it? Did it chip when you hit a staple in the cardboard? How secure in the hand is it? Did it break the bank? How does it carry? I'm a simple guy, when things get too focused on the numbers I tend to tune out. YMMV

Try to be as objective as you can, and list what imperfections you might find in the knife. Sometimes we let pride get into the way and try to say mostly good things about our knives just because they're ours. But it's better to learn, and if one wants to read reviews that play down the bad things... well I guess that's what the magazines are for.

I personally like reviews that describe the knife, how long opened and closed, whats it made of, and so on. Don’t try and hide your bias say if you like the knife or not. Tell us what you’ve done with it and why or why you don’t like it. I think the very best reviews I’ve read didn’t have any figures or charts in them at all.
