How to "ruin" a perfectly good Game Warden sheath

Too much Egg Nog on Sunday, I guess. I decided to wet-mold my Game Warden sheath as I did some work on the Tigerhide GW. Soaked it for 10-15 seconds, molded, removed blade, set aside to dry.

4 hours later, it wasn't drying NEARLY fast enuf for me (we need a rolleyes without the hand smiley) and said, "You know, Lou Alessi told me once that he hardens his sheaths by 'baking' them after soaking. I wonder if that would make it stiffer AND speed up drying time."

It would have worked, if I had remembered that water boils at 180, not FOUR-HUNDRED-FIFTY-ONE degrees. And no, I didn't set it for 400. I put it in the toaster oven at 250 (had it set originally at 150 and thought, "no, it can handle up to 400!") for 5 minutes.

It's still in great condition - it really is rock-hard like an Alessi holster is - but even after oiling, it looks like someone's grandmother. :( I won't even post pictures it's so ugly. I was hoping hte oil would get the wrinkles out. Maybe I should have tried Oil of Olay. LOL

So whatever you do - DO NOT BAKE YOUR LEATHER!

(The really funny part is that Lou TOLD me not to try it - that I'd screw up some nice leather - he was right. I hate that. LOL)

Not according to Leatherman:D :p

:p :o

Hey Dennis, Jet me an e-mail with your addy and I'll getcha one of my "seconds" its got a few little black flecks on it from Tippman oil. Nothing else wrong with it aside from it sitting on the shelf in my leather storage. :)

I hate it when I am NOT fishing for a mooch and I GET a mooch.

Talk about feelin low. DANGIT!

I'll PM you LM. Thanks. It is very unnecessary. VERY.

(Wow. I hate this place.)

You forgot to baste it? Sheesh man.... Some people were born to cook and some were born to be cooked. :D ;) :p

Don't feel bad. Brothers of Infi help each other out. Leatherman is a good hog

Send it to 'Ducci!! Should go well with his custom'd Bloody Warden. :D

Thanks for the tip! Good to know, alright!
...I usually set mine in front of a low power room heater/fan on hi... warm dry air constantly moving over the sheath dries it pretty quickly.

FYI - Water boils at 212*Fahrenheit or 100*Celcius.(unless, you are in Denver, altitude makes it less) Just trying to prevent future mishaps you know.:D

Bummer about the sheath though.:grumpy:
