I've got a Kershaw 2445, the Salvo, and the thumbstuds on it are small and don't provide decent leverage for opening the knife. Consequently they are actually painful to use to try and open this knife, which is resulting in this knife becoming a draw dweller. I am curious as to how these studs are installed, and if they are something that I could remove/replace easily? I would actually prefer having a thumb disc on this knife, but that is, I think getting past my capabilities.

Thanks for any advice, pointers.

The thumbstud looks superficially similar to the one on the ZT0300, which is press fit. If that's the case you may be able to just push it more to the side of the blade you'd prefer and solve your problem. Could you post a few close ups of the thumbstud from different angles?

Thanks Steve, I'll have a go at this knife in a day or two, gotta be at the attorney's office all day tomorrow  I'm sending my Eraser's your way tomorrow.

Don sent me this knife to work on and it is indeed painful to open. It is a press fit thumb stud so I thought I'd show how I pushed the thumbstud over using a vice and a socket slightly larger than the stud. This helped but its still pretty tough to open because of the strong detent.

The socket goes over the side of the stud that you want to be sticking out more.
The blade and the other side of the thumbstud are protected with masking tape and then you just slowly tighten the vise until the thumbstud moves if you want to take it out completely just keep going all the way and it will fall right out.

Hey I didn't realize I was there already, thanks! This is officially number 1000. Time to put together a give away.

No problem. Its tricky to open but a nice little knife overall. Hope I can get it tweaked to your liking because it surely deserves to be carried.
