"Hi everyone, I've been trying to hand-sand the Micarta top of a Super Commander knife. I've tried angle grinders, steel brushes, and sandpaper, but with limited success. Could someone tell me how to properly sand the top to bring out the texture of the fabric and give it a more dimensional, textured feel? Thank you!"

Sand blasting with a finer medium, like glass beads or even walnut, will give you the texture you're after. (google translate is awesome)

Its it a after market scale or stock from the company???

Unless its a custom its probably g10 not micarta but no pics no know.😉

Ive had success by using coarse sand paper and hand sanding micarta to expose the fibers.Using a power tool will only smooth it further.

That's truly fantastic! Could you share your experience with me? I currently have 80-400 grit sandpaper and would love to learn how you achieved it. Thank you.

I've been surprised by my experiences with Micarta .
Mostly bad ones .
I don't understand the attraction over other more reliably textured and pigmented materials such as G10.
. . . the following is more than just ranting and may help the OP , and help those unfamiliar with the stuff to see it's attraction :

On line the colors usually look vibrant and desirable . When the knife shows up it looks washed out and anemic and fuzzy .
more so when one starts hand sanding on it as I have .

The advantage , as far as I can see, is that when one's hands are damp or wet the grip on the knife handle is fantastic and very desirable because it doesn't abrade the skin the way say coarse G10 would. And it looks good wet.

In my experience the only way to get some texture similar to G10 from all that fuzzy stuff when dry is to brush on some well thinned shellac and let it dry .
This has the advantage of darkening the color a little .

It doesn't last .
I'm not a fan of Micarta because I use my knives for short periods and nearly always with dry hands in a High Desert location .
Under these conditions I find Micarta slippery . ((((((and ugly))))))

Some here enjoy Micarta with oil soaked into it. That certainly makes it look better.
Not sure what the effect is then with wet hands .

Bottom line I like the sound of sand blasting it and with actual sand rather than beads.
Though I have never done this .
Sorry if I sound a bit bitter . Just bought a Case knife that in the factory image they show it as a beautiful some what translucent Gold colored fabric .
What came out of the box was your same old same old "raw" "natural" micarta . . .
opaque dark brown with a net of thin kakiie colored threads on top .
What a disappointment .
The material in that one is heavily saturated with ? epoxy ? resin and so is not anemic but it is slick .
I plan to enjoy it as is with no tampering.
I love the Case Swell Center Jack so that is why I kept it . . . added to my collection of SC Jacks .
