I have a Benchmade 940s and I've seen some folks sand the scales down to the original aluminum color. I've never been a big fan of the green and I'm thinking about doing this myself. Any thoughts on the best method and/or any pitfalls I should be aware of.

There are chemicals which will strip anodizing without damaging the aluminum.

Heated 30% NaOH solution with an agitator. Its not the kind of thing you want to do indoors, this is backyard chemistry only. :D

(From Syph007, regarding stripping ano from Victorinox Alox scales.)

They can be sandblasted off as well. It will give a nice satin finish when they are done. I actually did that to a Kershaw Blur I had and it looked like a factory finish

Chemical strip.
Or
Bead blast for a Bead blasted look
