how to sell for the first time

I read the rules for selling items, but I was looking for some other guidelines for somebody who has never sold an item over an online forum.

How do I protect myself and the buyer to make sure the transaction goes right as far as payment and shipping and confirmation the buyer received the package?

I am just looking to sell handle scales , so nothing of huge value, but again I've never sold online before.

Item listing removed by staff as immaterial to question.

Take good photos, describe honestly, ship when you say you ship, package securely. That’s it :)

Adding to ferider's, remember that insurance on the package is there to protect you as seller/shipper (it's your responsibility that it's delivered to the buyer, not just until it's dropped off at USPS). Going with that is packaging it well so that it won't get lost or stolen in transit.
