My 500th post is coming up soon. Can some one clue me in on how to setup a knife giveaway? Thanks.

Decide any rules/eligibility, any requirements that you want to include (for example a minimum post count as in some recent giveaways there's been a tendency for new 'posters' to ONLY post in giveaways, ie abuse the generosity of people lke yourself and of the forum in general), the number of posts entrants may make, how you're going to pick the winner (just search 'random number generator' if you want to do it like that), and decide how long you're going to let it run for.

Good luck and congratulations on nearly 500 posts :)

If Unicorns aren't real how is my knife handle made from it's horn ?
getting my post count up so I can get in on your 500 post giveaway, Jack Black can I get a link to your 2000 post giveaway ? :D

Kybosshog, I'm not sure if you're trying to make a joke, but if you are commenting just for the sake of getting your post count up, that's almost worse than those who just blatantly enter any giveaway they can.

It's pretty much up to you how you want to run it. Some things to consider are:

- Eligibility -- min post count? join date before X? CONUS only?
- Entry -- post a pic/video. tell a joke/story. or just say "I'm in"
- # entries -- 1 per person? allow multiple based on some criteria?
- Duration -- start and end dates
- Selection -- pick your favorite post. have someone else pick. random number generator

Figure those things out (and anything else you want to consider), and then just post a thread here. Good luck!

Thanks guys for the very helpful (to me, and I hope others) comments. I'll set it up in the next couple days.

Maybe do join date instead of post count? Some folks may not have alot to say hehe. At least that's how I would do it if I wanted to keep out those joining just for giveaways.

I like this option, myself. I don't have a lot of money to spend on knives, so I don't have a lot of first hand experience, and I don't like just regurgitating other people's information.

You're just getting your post count up. :-D

Seriously, you're the type I'm talking about. 2009 joined with 23 posts

I think it's worse when people post constantly but really don't know what they're talking about.

ETA, I realized later that this statement could be read as being directed at SVTFreak. I hope no one took it that way, I was simply saying that I don't want to be "that guy."

Well, I think you're doing a great thing. For my 1000th post, I donated a few folders to the active military over in the SandBox. Bought a fella's Holy Grail not long ago, found out he's active military with a family, and told him to keep his Holy Grail knife and the PayPal. This makes me feel good; I'm giving it to young folks who are risking their lives for us and don't get paid much. I still remember making $78 a month as a private E-1. Back then... :)
