How to Sharpen a Knife with Bob Kramer

On Kramer's web site, he sells a sharpening kit that appears to be the same gear he uses in the video, with three stones (appear to be glass-backed, in 400, 1000, 5000 grit), the small cleaning stone, and the sink bridge/jig of bamboo. On that page, the kit is described as 'Bob Kramer by Zwilling J.A. Henkels Knife Sharpening Kit'. So, it appears Zwilling/Henkels is the manufacturer or source. No idea if Zwilling/Henkels actually makes their own stones, or if they contract it out to someone else.

Thank You David, I should have been more clear in my question.

I wonder who is making the stones for Zwilling / Henkels to private label them?

The glass backing has me intrigued in that the only other time I've seen that style is Shapton Glass Stones. The color being dark gray, I wonder if Shapton Glass is making these stones for Zwilling / Henkels and using a darker color stone to differentiate this line from their Shatpon Glass line?

.

cbwx34 ... Thank You.

You just taught me a good lesson, watch ALL of a video before posting a link and question regarding that link ... (egg on my face).

The look of the stones had me thinking Shapton Glass, not Chosera.

Mystery solved, I appreciate the answer.

He's said those were made for henkels by naniwa/chosersa. I honestly thought he was mistaken and they were the gray shapton glass stones .

I found this in another forum...

I got this email from Henckels answering some questions I had about their whetstones/hones:

"Hello I apologize for the delay.

We do not give out our suppliers but these are made for us by a leading
supplier in Japan who is expert in this field.

TWIN Finishing stone and TWIN stone pro are made of WA, white Alumina.

Raw materials are imported from China and are purifying material in
Japan.

Those stones are synthetic stone and there are two types of stone.

One is vitrified type stone, which was mixed with ceramic material, baked
and molded at quite high, as like 1200 degrees.

The other one is resinoid stone, which ours is, are made by resinoid. It
means stones were mixed with sort of resin and baked around 400 degrees.

Normally whetstone has to soak in the water before using, because
normally those are baked at high temperature and dried-out, but our type
was molded by resin so that sharpening can be started soon after just
putting some water before start re-sharpening. Also this type is not
fragile as vitrified type so that it is much easier to handle.

Later on in that thread, someone posted that they found a reference that they were "Naniwa Twin Stone Pro".

Don't know myself, never seen them.
