How to sharpen a tanto spike??

Hi All,

Was wondering what the best way to sharpen a cs spike would be. I am expecting delivery of a spyderco sharpener today and wanted to give it a try on some of my knives.

The spike is a tanto and has what appears to be a straight grind from the spine with no secondary angle (bevel?). Should I try to sharpen the entire flat or just the edge (creating a secondary angle)?

My guess is that it could be sharpened much like the way I sharpen a Scandi grind. Bevel flat against the stone, if necessary, and then a microbevel. I've never used one, but I suspect the pike will never be a great slicer, considering the edge goes from zero to about 1/4" thick over the span of about a half inch.
