how to sharpen anything

I tried sharpening my big toe once with a belt sharpener. Hurt like hell.

I can't sharpen anything worth jack, even on a Spyderco sharpmaker. I believe I was born with the inability to learn that particular skill set.
 
Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment is really where you need to go asking these questions, plenty of good folks who can help you out. I would start with the stickies at the top, some of your answers might be in them.
