How to sharpen Leek Ti/ZDP

I tried to search for an answer first but was unsuccessful in finding the information that I need. My Ti/ZDP leek is very dull, I tried sharpening it on the Sharpmaker and after 2 1/2 hours its "kinda" sharp now. What should I use to sharpen this? Will the edgepro apex have better results?
 
Use an X coarse benchstone (I like the DMT XX coarse) to reprofile the edge. I believe the problem you are running into is the factory edge is more obtuse than the Sharpmaker settings. If you reprofile it to under 15 per side then the Sharpmaker will work like a charm for you, as it does microbevels very well. You don't have to worry about holding the angle dead on for your back bevel when you reprofile, as long as it is under the Sharpmaker angles it will work fine.

The Edge Pro will also work great and leave a great looking edge bevel, if that concerns you. It will also be much slower than a DMT XX coarse stone in reprofiling (and probably slower than a $5 X coarse hardware store stone, but I have only used the DMT XX coarse in comparison to the Edge Pro personally), but I doubt you will be disappointed with the results. It is expensive, though.

Diamonds are your best friend with this hard stuff. It took me considerable time reprofiling and sharpening my Endura 4 zdp-189 even with diamonds..

Holy crap that is thick! I thought my Cyclone was a pig at .030". My Spyderco Endura ZDP (which is in Tom's shop for some TLC) went from 15 per side to 10 per side in a couple minutes on the DMT XX Coarse, but if the edge on the Leek is that thick you may be spending a really long time thinning it from over 20 per side to under 15 per side. The best way to thin it for much better cutting and ease of sharpening is to send it in to Tom's shop and have him hook you up with a nice hollow grind while thinning out the edge. It will cut so much better and sharpen so much easier that your mind will be blown. My Krein reground knives are my most used knives for their tremendous cutting ability and ease of sharpening.
