Hi, I have multiple knives with different sorts of steel and have in general no problems with sharpen them.
1095, cpm BD30p, ZDP 189 en lots of more. I can give them a razor edge with no problem.
But! My Para 2 with S30V is a pain in the a** to sharpen. I have a spyderco triangle sharpmaker, diamond stone and a leather strop and cant get a razor edge on the Para 2!
My question: Can somebody give me some advise how to sharpen my Para 2?

Gr, Ruud

I use the spyderco and a strop. Takes a great edge. However, I never let my blade get dull.

Shouldn't be any harder than any other good steel to sharpen. Maybe it is really dull or you don't have the right angle.

practice freehanding. there's one gorilla-like forumer :D who's a bit of a guru. all his posts already provide links to his old tutorial threads here in BF.

If you have $200+ laying around, an Edge Pro will do the trick. It turned me from zero to hero. Its basically foolproof, and gives a killer edge. But it sounds like you already know how to sharpen, and are just having trubba with this particular knife. Sounds to me like maybe you are not holding the correct angle like Mr. Micarta said, or maybe your Sharpmaker rods need cleaning. When they get junked up, the magic disappears.

I have to clean my sharpmaker rods after every few uses. Other than that maybe the bevels are off? Have you tried using a sharpie to check where you're removing metal?

Thanks guys I also think I have the wrong angle. Maybe some youtube vids will do the trick.
The edge Pro is maybe a idea!

The angle is key. If the knife your trying to sharpen doesnt have a 30 degree or smaller bevel than you have to reprofile it if you want to sharpen it at 30 degrees. Reprofiling with the sharpmaker is slow even with the diamond stones. Usally the 40 degree setting on the sharpmaker will hit the edge of most knives as long as there main bevel is less than 40 degrees. My recommendation for you is to reprofile the knife at 30 degrees starting with the diamond rods. Use them until you are sure your hitting the edge of the blade (do the sharpy trick for this). Than once you have hit the edge progress threw your other rods. After that you can put a micro bevel on your edge using the 40 degree setting or use the 40 degree setting just to touch it up. For the micro bevel my opinion is not to use the diamond rods at all. There way to coarse for that small of a micro bevel. Start with the fine rod for that or the medium.

Also another thing is to never pull the tip off the stone. Stop so the tip is still on the stone or you will round it. This is never mentioned it that instruction video. Practice on cheap knives you dont care so much about.

Thanks, that sounds verry usefull! But what is the Sharpy Trick? I searched it but coudnt find it. I think tonight I will make some time to reprofile my Para 2 and hopefully it takes a shaving edge!
:D

Sorry take a sharpy and either mark just the edge or the whole bevel. This helps you see what your actually hitting when your sharpening.

Does this help. The first part of the video addresses the Sharpie trick. Thanks for the video Zyhano!
