I know I am getting ahead of myself since I just placed my order for my tglb about a week ago but I am slready wondering how I will sharpen it. Right now I use a lansky diamond set for all my knives but the longest I own is a ratmandu. Will the lansky set work to sharpen the tglb as well or is it too long. It seems that the ratmandu stretches the limit of my system so I am wondering if I should get something like the edgepro apex.

Was wondering what those of you who own and use tglb's use. Thanks

I just use a dmt duo fold and free hand it, then strop to touch up. Pretty easy to maintain the edge angle and get hair popping sharp that way.

I often read sharpening threads and see recommendations for edge pro or sharp maker or lansky systems and really think most folks should learn to sharpen freehand. Nothing wrong with those they just seem unnecessary to me. Back when I learned to sharpen knives (the 60s yes I'm old) i learned with an Arkansas stone and only high end knives came with a indian stone lol. Now we have diamond stones and they are nice, really though learning to freehand is a valuable skill and I highly recommend it. Start with a cheap knife you don't care much about and learn to get it shaving sharp and you will always be able to sharpen a better knife easily.

With a convex edge a strop will become your best friend. INFI is a very easy steel to resharpen once you have beaten the edge into submission.

a 4 inch wide piece of stirrup leather and mother maguires metal polish works great. I usually cut them about 20 inches or so long.
