Hi, guys!

I bought some handle bolts for a BATAC user so that I can remove the handles whenever I need to (cleaning, changing handle scales to 550 cord, etc). They were recommended by someone on Bladeforums especially for Busses, because the screws were conical and fit in the tube holes.

It's these two products:

They fit fine; my only problem is that they are too long for the CG BATAC with standard scales. Does anyone who's worked with that hardware have any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I would take one of the screws down to a local hardware store and look for a shorter version of the 8-32 thread screw. That is a common thread, so it shouldn't be that difficult.

The screws sold on that site are 3/8th, so I would think a 1/4 would be appropriate.

(or if you prefer, just order 1/4 from that same site for standard scales, **I forgot you can get an infraction for posting external links, just go to the site and search for "screw 8-32" and choose one that is for 1/4 length screws).

Cut them to lenght with a hacksaw, fine tooth blade. Be sure to hold the part that will be discarded in the vise. Use a fine tooth hand file to bevel the cut edge so the leading thread will catch properly, works for me every time. Good luck.

Put a nut on the threads below the cut, then as you take it off after the cut it will clean up the threads.

Personally, I would just pay the five dollars to get a bag of 25 of the right sized screws.

But that's just me.

I took a peice of 1/8th inch flat plate, tapped it with the corect size tap. screwed it in and filed it off

LOL...I did, today, lsheldon! I felt pretty stupid, too...not sure how I missed that product when I checked back on the site the first time, before I started this thread.

Still, I really appreciate all the advice...it's not worth returning the other bag (plus they probably fit some of the thicker knife handles); so it's good to know how to make adjustments to the screws if I need to. It's funny...I actually have a pair of the electrician's pliers...never knew that they could cut bolts.

Thanks, again, guys!
