How to size a lost chuck key

My chuck key went missing in my move. I bought a 4 size key off of Amazon thinking it would be easy to replace but it didn't work. I have the largest benchtop Wen. Its probably something stupid easy but sometimes I'm not all that smart.

Check your chuck to see if it has a type name stamped on it. If it does go to some industrial supply site like mcmaster.com and search on drill chuck keys.

Pull up the Wen parts sheet on your unit and see what the part number is. That said, the universal 4 key unit should have worked.

You could also pop off the chuck and take it with you to Fastenal or Home Depot.

Alot of the imports like Wen, Harbor freight, Shop fox, Grizzly, etc are dang near identical. You may be able to find a matching unit from Grizzly and order the part from their website ☺

If it's a brand name like Jacobs or Albrecht or whatever, maybe the cross lists are valid.
I have tried and tried to match some chuck keys.

It's simpler to replace the chuck with a new one.

Maybe get a keyless chuck at the same time.
