Hello there,

I've been trying to figure out how to square the spine of my 552 Ritter Grip so that it throws amazing sparks from my LMF rod. The spine is already "square" shaped, but it seems to be a little rounded on the edges.

I would like it to be significantly rough on the edges so that it throws sparks like my Case Sodbuster does - Case knives put out some awesome sparks

I have sandpaper ranging from 60 to 1000, a grinding wheel, dremel with all the fixings, etc... at my disposal, so any help in getting the spine squared would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, J.

Does that 552 have an S30V stainless steel blade? That may never throw off sparks like Case high-carbon steel.

It is S30V, but that's never stopped knives that I've had in the past. The edges are very round and I can't get them squared off enough to cast a good shower of sparks. I was using the Case sodbuster as an example of how I want the spine to be :)

And I agree about the carbon steel throwing better sparks too

Use a flat diamod file or stone to square it up. Sandpaper has too much "give."

Sandpaper on a steel plate or glass plate should work. Just hold the knife perpendicular to the plate. Sand. Start low go high. Will take awhile. DMT plates would work great.
