I have a mini USMC kabar and BK-9 that both have random strips of coating worn off by failed sharpening attempts and such this in my opinions gives them a damaged look and I would prefer to simply take the rest of the coating off is there any way to do it without a sand blaster?

I took off the coating on my BK2 using 100 grit paper and a furrowed brow. A chemical paint stripper might make the job a bit easier though...

I got some Jasco Epoxy paint stripper from Lowe's for like 6 bucks, 20 minutes later, my Becker was nekkid. Its evil stuff though, so take precautions. Moose

a quick search on this topic will find the many successful methods used by others, and some darn fine pretty pictures ;)

Got Dremel? They have Scotch Brite wheels for it that blows the stuff right off.
It's how I did this Izula....and Rat 1

WOW !!!

that Izula is just twisted......... I love it... looks like your own designed knife.. I've been trying to get mine to a polish finish but seems I've burned or etched the middle of the knife in the process..

any suggestions?

Rob, looks like you have some hand rubbing to do.
I would start up with 600 grit, then work up from there til you got the finish you wanted.
