Hello members:
I am new to collecting and would like to know what you recommend to wipe down blades from fingerprints etc? Should I apply drop of oil to blade then wipe down? I keep my growing collection in a Maxpedia case( holds 12) in the safe. I was considering using a Chris Reeve blue cloth that came with my Sebenza. Just want to gain knowledge from you collectors before I do any detailing on a few of my knives. Thanks a lot.

I am no collector but from what i understand is that you should wipe it down/clean it thoroughly before applying any oil as oil can trap moisture on the blade.

I used to always oil the blades in my collection that didn't see use but now I wax them with Renaissance Wax, great product. Doesn't take much and it is what museums use to preserve their metal pieces. If you ever want it off just wipe the blade with a gun cleaning solvent and it will come right off, prevents fingerprints as well.

I HATE RUST!

I use Breakfree CLP for all guns and knives. It is a nice steel cleaner, lube, and protector (the CLP). Oil will eventually gum up and attract dust and dirt.

I keep mine in Ziplock Freezer Bags in a gun safe in a cool dry basement.
