Hello , hope everyone is doing great,

If anyone read my last post you probably know whats going on , I'm trying to customize a rough shape Bear Grylls Parang, so I finally figured out how to take out the stiff Torx screws by using a multi-tool to dig away the plastic of the handle around it.Now I thought once you take out the Torx the plastic orange handle would nicely come off in two pieces. It doesn't ... I'm left with two holes and plastic handle that won't come off iv'e tried cutting at it with no success , im thinking since its plastic maybe I should burn it off.. but I dont want to resort to that.

Anyone know how to do this or have any tips?

Thanks and have a great day,

The handle is probably glued or epoxied. Might even be molded around/through a drilled/skeletonized tang as well. If you're really intent on saving the handle without damage, you might contact Gerber and see if they can give some clues about how it's attached (I'm sure they'll remind you the warranty will be voided as well, if it's destructively removed). Otherwise, I'd just go ahead and cut/sand/grind it off, or perhaps pry it loose with a chisel or similar device.

I'd avoid trying to burn it off, as that may just make a bigger mess (and the fumes likely will be dangerous).

If the tang if flat, you could go down the side with a hacksaw. I just cut up a PVC pipe with a 18 TPI (teeth per inch) hacksaw blade so that is the blade I would try.

Thanks a bunch guys , I used a Dremel and cut one side then used a chisel to pry off the other side , I also see why the Parang was recalled , where the blade ends and tang begins its 3.5cm long the tang in the front is only 1.75cm and 1.5 in the very end , and with the Parangs weight heavily concentrated in the front I can see how that can snap....But anyways now im off to give the blade a mirror finish a sharpen and a new wood handle.

That's a big hole in a small tang.
