i'd like to "upgrade" my victorinox locksmith by putting on some nicer scales...and ideally, i'd like to be able to remove the stock scales neatly and cleanly so that i have a nice template for making the new ones...

anyone ever done this? suggestions how to get them off? i'm assuming they're just glued on so i've thought about boiling the knife in water...whaddayall think?

prying them off will almost surely break them, i would think...

I have heard that putting the SAK in boiling water will get the scales off just fine.

Mine fell off after about a year of pocket carry. Well, not really fell off but got loose enough that I could just pop them off. IIRC they are not glues on, it is just a press fit around a rivit, so you probably could just pry them off without to much trouble.

thanks - i didn't realize that...i just popped my thumbnail under the center of one and lifted a bit...obviously not glued down...but i think there's probably a bit of glue or something on the ends as they won't budge at all...

nonetheless, the path toward de-scaling is quite clear to me now...

thanks...
