Bk9 came today, first impression is I thought it be beefer but I look forward to the lighter weight for chopping. But that's neither here nor there for this post. My question is how to get a two tone effect and what I should use to cover the areas I wish to keep the finish on? Thanks in advance

Ps im working my way to becoming a beckerhead!

I have not done a knife but did strip another object. I would tape up section I wanted preserved and use a brush to apply remover to areas desired. One thing remember gravity. If I wanted to preserve the finish on handle, the knife would be point down the entire time that way the remover would only go down blade.

What kind of tape so that the stripper doesn't eat away at it? The stuff I have stripped my bk2 in roughly 7 minutes and the coating fell off, so you can see why id be worried about the tape being eaten up too

can't say I've tried. But as a chem major I can say DON'T USE DUCK TAPE AND PAINT STRIPPER! With scraping off the goo that the duck tape will become you might as well have just sanded the sucker.

I figured i would have to go with a medium strength adhesive tape such as painters tape. My other option would be strip it completely and then just patina the parts i want black over and over and over again that way the finish never rubs off and im sure itll look pretty sick

There's lots of ways to patina it pretty fast. Heat up vinegar, mustard, and apply to a warm blade. Use gun blueing, I've read that's pretty fast.

Some people have made good experiences with masking tape, and again, DO NOT use duct tape. Horrible mess will ensue if you do.

ok so i started my project, and here are some pics thus far so you all know it did, in fact, happen....

Its taped off and sitting with mustard right now...ill update throughout the process.

patina is finished, added a lil poly under the scales for good measure, and some hockey tape to the girvory for grip and the finished product is.............

thanks, i wanna polish the exposed blade some more to make it really pop, then i wanna take it into the woods and kick the crap out of it. I like nice things, to take pics of the nice things, and then use those nice things like its going outta style!

I dig it. Thanks for the pictures, we all know what a pain it is to post 'em. Looks good, now post some pics using that beast!!
