How to tell a Gen 4

Hope this isn't a dead horse, but I'm starting to look for my first hinderer and will probably get a 3" flipper. But how can I make sure it's a newer model (gen4) as opposed to an older? Besides the seller saying it's a new one?

There is no Gen 4 for 3" XM-18s. Just Gen 1 and Gen 2. The Gen 1 had HINDERER on the blade and all were custom ground. Gen 2 has spanto and production slicers and HINDERER on the Ti lock side and not on the blade.

Good luck on your search. For some reason 3" flipper slicers have been coming up frequently on the exchange but you have to move fast!!!

People jump the gun on the size, some benefit from waiting to see. We live in a remote control world, if something does not seem satisfy the immediate need based on attention span measured in minutes "push the button. Oooh, Squirrel!!"
One's loss is anothers gain.

I haven't completly covinced myself that it has to be a flipper, but when I had my 560/561 I sure liked the flipper. I now have a 550 and it flips open just as good or fast as the 560 series did.

Actually, the answer is far more simple, the 3"s are the most recent production that is probably winding down and as they have hit the market over the last few months, they are the most common you are seeing sold in the secondary market. Before that, it was 3.5" Gen 4s and before that 4.0" Gen 2s. Prior to the most recent production run of the 3"s, you were lucky to find one.

Your title ask about a "Gen 4".

So...to that question (and negating the post...just attention to your title)...

The most recent (last batch) 3.5" are the only "Gen 4" XMs. They featured the relocated stop pin as the primary design change.

N2K, I was asking on gen 4's but I thought that pertained to the 3" versions as well. Still nice to get informed on the hinderers though. I actually found and oreder a
3" flipper this morning from one of Rick's vendor list. Will be able to touch it on Thursday.:)

I'm aware. I just wanted to put it out there again, that the Gen4 is for 3.5's.

Congrats on the 3" Flipper. Please share some photos with us (perhaps in the photo thread) once it arrives.
