I just purchased a 940-1 on ebay from this posting: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Benchmade-Knives-940-1-Osborne-Axis-S90V-Carbon-Fiber-New-Box-/111717752117 . I saw the posting and decided to just throw a low ball offer of $200 just to see if they would go for it. Well to my surprise they did! Obviously I was very excited to get such a great deal on a beautiful knife. After a few minutes though, I started to worry about why they would accept such a low offer. I messaged the owner of the account asking a few questions about the knife, trying to see if they seemed legitimate. It was immediately clear that they spoke very little English which added to my concern considering most counterfeits are brought in from Asia. In order to protect myself, I am trying to learn the different techniques I can use to identify counterfeit knives and ensure that I haven't been scammed. What should I be looking for to verify the knife? Has the 940-1 been known to be targeted for counterfeiting? Thanks for all of your help and input!

I havent seen any Benchmade clones that look anything like the original. I'd say it's real. You rarely have to worry about fakes with Benchmade. I think it's just the lighting making it look off maybe.

I have bought more than one knife from this seller have had positive experiences with him

I've never seen fake Benchmade 940 or 940-1.

This. A quick look around to fine a clone one didn't really turn up anything. It seems the clone companies are more content to just copy the axis lock and put it into whatever they want. As opposed to Spydercos where the clones are unfortunately getting closer and closer to the originals.

Not so sure about that, though I never saw a 940.... wouldn't know how to tell it from an original, but I have seen alot of BM fakes...

I believe you are Ok also, but for warranty and the piece of mind you can usually deal with an Authorized dealer and try to get a better deal and if it is direct and not through Ebay you can usually get a better deal since there are no Ebay fees.

Good to know CM cause I would like a deal on one please?

Wow, talk about resurrecting a dead thread! You do realize this thread was 1.5 years old, right? The 940-1 can be had on here and the facebook Benchmade group for $180-200 all day long.

just heard about this. so sad they are copying this now. the way to tell is by looking into the screw holes at the end of the handle, they will be silver. the anodization might also be a slight difference. that's what my friend mentioned to me think it was mentioned on benchmades Facebook page.

Just purchased one from eBay. I threw an offer of 195 for his 940-1 and accepted it his pic looks like the real deal. What do you guys think. Sellers name is (t_c_paintball).

Sharplife, I bought a Bugout and Proper from him and they're both good to go. I also got each of them for a pretty good deal after exchanging a few offers. He's a legit seller.
