I'm looking to buy a knife from a guy over the net and I know BM changed the coating on the 806D2. He doesn't know what it has. How/where can I tell him to look?
Thanks,
Satch

He says it doesn't say anywhere on the blade or box or papers what kind of coating it has. What exactly should it say on the blade to be the better, new style coating? Sorry for the newbie question.

First of all the 806 has been discontinued, so getit now or never and I dont think theres any with the new bk1 coating made.

I have a new BM140HS that has the BK under the M2HS marking. If its not marked as BK, its just BT.

If ur getting it for use, doesnt matter as the coating WILL get scratched up. But D2 is pretty rust resistant if u dont forget to wipe the blade after use, especially after cutting fruits and cheese. Not much help, sorry.

Sorry I was not more specific. The only 806 with BK are the ones made this year. Benchmade started using BenchKote in 2005 and production of the 806 stopped in November. I bought one from Grand Prairie Knives as soon as I heard they were being discontinued and mine has the BK symbol. Both coatings are good so I would not worry about it. If you can find any 806 for a good price get it quick! You will not be disappointed.

Thanks. I got it figured out. I found pics of both versions, with the symbol and without. I ordered from GP almost two weeks ago. Their website said in stock. A week later I found out they didn't have it. I would have been looking that whole week if not for them saying they had it but not really. I found one from a private party though, but it's not in my hand yet.
