How to tell your Becker sheath contains glass or not?

My understanding is that the old Becker sheaths contain glass fibers which can dull the edge. The new ones do not contain glass fibers and do not dull the edge. My question is, just by appearance alone can we tell which sheaths are which?

I cant tell by looking but if you put it in and remove it several times and it dulls the blade it has glass.

I know the old 2 and 14 sheaths had glass in them and they do indeed look different.

sheath and unsheath your blade abut 3-10 times...if its dull after you've obviously got a bad sheath.

The best way is to get an after market sheath. Plenty of great leather workers and kydex benders on here(some are Beckerheads). I won't name names at the risk of leaving a good one out, but search a bit, they're here.

I think he had the new "Non-Dulling" sheath in that video.
could be wrong but, arnt the new sheath shaped to the blade (flat outline) and the old ones almost had a Tanto outline?

No, I had a sheath that dulled the edge and it was one of the new generation ones.

Use your knife daily for a week, and you'll wear a groove where it dulls the blade...or just pull it straight out and it won't affect the knife.

Whether the sheath is GFN, the new stuff, kydex, leather, concrete, whatever - why not draw the knife so that the spine presses against the sheath material rather than the edge?

Lol - am I the only one that thinks that should be common sense?

tap the sheath. if it sounds hollow/brittle, probably has glass.

if it sounds dull, it's probably injected plastic or nylon.

if you don't like it? toss it. it's worth about $0.32, which is to say "it was free"

or fix it, or ignore it, or ...

So the new sheaths still do not solve the problem? How disappointing.

No, there are actually 3 generations of sheaths, the "tanto" 1st gen. the "becker necker" 2nd gen and the 3rd gen wich should have more or less solved the problem, sorry for the confusion B.

Right Thats what virtuovice (the uploader of the video) found...

??????...You asked me if he had a 3rd gen sheath and I said no, it still dulled the edge. I know that Wako (Virtuovice)'s sheath dulled the edge, why would I have posted it if I didnt know that already???

I am indeed getting a little confused, are there any visual differences between the 2nd and 3rd gen sheaths then? By the way, what generation is your sheath?

I have a second gen sheath, I think between the 2nd and 3rd gen the only difference is (as Bladite pointed out) they sound different when you tap it.

Thanks, tkat makes sense now. At first I thought there are only two generations, the old and the new.
