How do I go about texturing a canvas or linen micarta handle? I don't as of yet have a bead blast set up, and so all the handles are finished nice and smooth. This looks pretty, but leaves room for improvement in the grip department. Is my best bet to just go ahead and get a bead blasting set up, or is the another way to kinda rough them up a bit that still looks nice? We have a couple drill presses, 3 grinders, and a buffer in the shop to work with right now.

i hand finish the linen or canvas micarta to 220 grit. this looks better on some colors than others. if it looks kind of frosty, i give it a couple of coats of wax, flitz gun wax or car wax works fine.

Canvas Micarta can be sanded at 180-220 for a decent grip. But nothing beads a bead blaster. The Harbor Freight units are cheap and work great. The costly bit is the compressor to run it on. You need at least a 6hp 30gal setup if you want to get any pressure at all. Even with that big of a compressor you can only go for about thirty seconds at a time.

Before I got my blaster I took stuff to a local glass shop. After that a friend was kind enough to share his blaster. Lots of them around, you just need to find out where.

The blaster is also a huge work saver for scale removal.
