I'm looking for a way to put a lanyard cord on my Leatherman. I would like it to be a simple peace of rope that can be easily attach and removed without using split rings or clips.

I used one of them coil cord today that look like a phone cord with a split ring on one end and a clip on the other end.
It looks kind of stupid and was way to long.

What type of knots should I use?

Thanks,

I have preformed detailed maintenance on torpedoes, but I couldn't get a decent lanyard from any of the online illustrations I have found. So I end up doing my own make shift lanyards:rolleyes:

The best lanyard for taking apart, is like I have on my cell. I have 2 feet of 1/8" cord, daisy-chained, and used a small clip to connect it to my case. when I need to secure it for biking or jogging, I undo the last link and pull out. tying something down, unclip it, and use the clip as a securing point to loop around.

The well-meaning folks above have provided a host of ornamental knots to put a little rope handle on your Wave - - but is that what you need?

Do you just need a little rope handle on your Leatherman, or a longer lanyard to secure the tool, say when working on a boat or over water? See link:

If it is to secure the tool, and knowing the small size of the lanyard hole on the Wave, I'd just pass the cord through the hole then tie a sliding queu-knot (fisherman's, climber's, knot) around the standing part of the cord. This can be cinched down so the knot is close to the lanyard hole on the tool, and can be easily slid off if you need to remove the lanyard.

I often use a Midshipman´s to temporarily tie a cord to something, or two half hitches as used by campers and boy scouts, check the hitches here:

A Lark´s head (sometimes called a Lark´s foot) is probably the standard for easy removing, though you need a double cord which for your leatherman might have to be very thin:

For a simple loop the bowline is hard to beat:

I know you said no clips but you may still want to look at these:
