This is also the same braid that the Infantry uses on their dress greens in the military. Also known as the Soloman's bar or Cobra braid

Start off like so
DSC04021_zps5294fafa.jpg

Bring the right side underneath the two middle strands and over the left strand

Now bring the left strand over the two middle strands and through the loop just made on the right

Carefully pull the knot tight

When cinched down, it should look like this

Now bring the left strand under the two middle strands and over the right strand

Just continue on

And here's how you tie the 2-colored Soloman's bar....

Start off like so
DSC04703_zpsf3cdb2d2.jpg

Lay the right color on top of the left color like so

Bring the right side under the two middle strands and over the left strand

Now bring the left strand over the two middle strands and through the loop you just made on the right
DSC04706_zps3792c073.jpg

Carefully cinch it down

It should look like this when cinched down

Bring the left strand under the two middle strands and over the right strand

Bring the right strand over the two middle strands and through the loop you just made on the left

Cinch it down and it looks like this!

From here, you just carry on with the same sequence of knots

Done! Trim leaving 1/8" and melt the frayed ends with a lighter!

Flip it over and notice how the colors have reversed

Post some pics up when you're done with it!

You make it look so simple!
I have a couple of these lying around the house, but can't recall for the life of me how I made them...
Hopefully it'll all come flooding back, when I figure out where I hid the paracord.

Any chance you wanna show us a Monkey Fist?
I've tried several times, using various online resources, but all of them seemed to miss a step - or I just couldn't follow.

Not sure how to tie the monkey fist. I'll do the box sinnet next!

Cool.
I think I managed one of those - but can't remember which tool I hung it on.
I let my skills atrophy when my wife started teasing me for making "Man Macramé."
But sometimes a lanyard is a very handy thing, and other times the available cord is!

I tend to come and go with my lanyards. Most of my fixed blades have them, mainly for ease of drawing out of the sheath.

Awesome. I always liked this one and wondered how it was done.

Thank you for showing us and using concise steps we can follow. Nothing is worse than trying to follow knot tieing steps that are poorly illustrated.

Is there a reason why on the two colour one the white cord is so much longer than the red?

No not really, they were just 2 scrap pieces of paracord that I had laying around! Just remember the 2 middles strands are going to indicate how long the braid will actually be when you're done. So be sure to have the outer 2 strands equally longer than the middle 2 strands!

i found a video which shows the "hippy version" or "native version" of tying a solomon bar with less motions so it's about twice as fast - you basically do both parts of the square not at the same time. pretty cool.

First time I've ever actually made this work. I think up till now I've not been pulling tight enough and letting the knot go cock-eyed.

That's a Buick???

Looks good C-Bear.
I'll have to try another one when I get home. Though I still haven't located my p-cord since the move.

That's actually pretty sweet. I have some purple paracord I've been trying to decide on what to do with, maybe I'll do a miniature version of this and attach to my motorcycle key.

Appreciate your time putting your technique out for us non-knot people, haha.
