How to tone down the Blur's grip inserts?

I picked up a ZDP Blur blem a while back, but I honestly haven't wanted to carry it because of the protruding rubber inserts. It makes it hard to get in and out of my pocket, and seems entirely excessive. Is there a way to "tone them down" without ruining the look of the knife? I wish Kershaw had never changed from their old grip take style inserts. I'd actually prefer an insert that is set into the handle like how Microtech does on many of their knives.
