It has been hinted that the BK10 is in the works. That may well be the case, but I am not one to wait for things. After I received my Camillus BK10,
I thought that rather than tear up a collectors piece, why not sacrifice one of my 7’s. I had just the 7 to do it with. One of them was 1/8” shorter
than the rest. Whoever was in charge of sharpening this one, ground a little too much off the tip. So, it was volunteered to be the blank slate.

This shows the discrepency in length.

With the handles off the Camillus, it was an easy to use template on the 7.

Off to the grinder and a bucket of water. Only ground for 2 seconds, then a nice soak in the cold
water. Never got the blade hot at all.

The new rough shape with false edge bevels ground in and the thumb ramp flattened.
I want it to fit in my ESEE 5 sheath or Spec-Ops sheath.

Time to start working the flat grind down to the edge width. Going from just shy of 3/16 to 1/16.

The edge width is taking shape. So is the top false edge.

Refining the flat grind and then the spine. With the ramp gone, it's time to try a new kind of jimping that matches what was already there. Chainsaw file does the trick.

With the grind the way I want it and the jimping done. Time to strip.

This time the coating almost fell off. As I was rinsing it, pieces were flying off. It got a 12 hour soak.

Time to put the Randall Made Knives inspired finish on the blade. Problem with shrinking photos is it distorts the image. This finish looks so much
better in large format. I'll post a few on Part III.

THAT is what I am TALKING ABOUT!

Nice work TAG. Looks like a good candidate for some nicely shaped micarta's, few polished stainless bolts and some lock washers. Be a sweet custom blade.

To keep me from destroying things, it is good that I a) do not have a belt grinder and b) spring is coming to get me out of the house.

Great example of simple, clean work.

Few more pieces of equipment and I could see you starting with blanks and making knives.

You got some serious skills. All your mods keep taking it to the next level. Next you'll have knifemaker next to your name

Tom your posts are always great! This one may be my favorite yet, well done new one is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Ok, that is just terrible. Simply terrible, of you to do that to a 7. For punishment, you will need to send that knife to me, for, um, er , um proper disposal in my homemade "Destructinator". :grumpy:

That is an afront to BKT in general, and you should be punished. You must not be allowed to retain ownership of said BK7/10, therefore, I will remand custody until such time as a proper disposal can be found.:grumpy:

:D I keed, I keed.

Tom, that is some great, great work you got there, very well done, and done right. I love it to death, I like the fact that it still has the factory rollstamp BK-7, that is truly awesome.

Thanks for sharing, and great, great post.

don't be selling these on ePrey as BK10s ;> and esp don't coat them orange and carve your own brand into them as well...

BK7plusminu3 == BK10ish

Looks good Tom I made a few of those myself. Never liked the bk10 much till I cut 7 down into one they are almost as tough as bk2 but alot lighter. My next one will be a mod on a bk9 into a bk12 style blade.
