I've come to the conclusion that for camping I need to learn how to sharpen my knife with a 3" or 4" Soft/Med Arkansas Stone.
I'm looking at
http://www.bestsharpeningstones.com/catalog/Pocket_Stones.htm

What I don't understand is how do you hold or place the stone to use it? Remember I'm thinking I'm out in the woods.

I plan to use the technique used in this video
http://www.sharpeningsupplies.com/freehand-sharpening-video.aspx
Let me know if this isn't the proper technique.

Is the Soft/Med Arkansas Stone the best if you are only carrying one stone?

Thanks

Also, with all the help I've become great with the Sharpmaker.

Looks right for sharpening to me. If you were re beveling, I would change the technique though. I'd get a fine diamond one, so you don't need to oil it, and just put it on a log or if your careful your lgeg
.

Samhain73,
I would sharpen the blade on the Shapemaker.
The stone would just be for when I'm camping.
