I recently purchased a tanto from a well known maker on the Forum. It came with a flat, leather covered (very thin) aluminum sheath. I'm sure there's a proper name for it, but my question is how to appropriately secure it to a belt, pants, etc. It does have a couple of long tethers wrapped around the sheath and extending some 18" on the free ends. How are they usually used?
Thanks for any insight,
Allan

Some photos would help.

This sort of sheath is meant to be sash carried, i.e. simply tucked through a belt or waistband. You can also ask Phil Patton for more advice, since he made the knife. It is also possible to use the sheath cord wrap as a static line, tying it through a belt loop.
