HI,
I just inherited a Camillus knife from my dad.(who passed away) The blade won't close up all the way. Is there a trick to closing this puppy? The handle is black about 4 inches long. There is a strip of metal (steel?) that runs along the handle on the opposite side of the blade so that when you try to close the blade al the way down it pushes against it and raises it a bit. But the blade itelf never closes into the slot on the handle. There are no other markings on the knive (other than Camillus on the blade) to indicate how old it is but I remember seeing it growing up so it's 35+ years old. Thanks in advance to all who may help. Just wondering if it an operator error or there is a trick.

Did you try cleaning it. A pipe cleaner run into the slot or just a blast of air from a compressor might remove some built up gunk in a folder.

If the knife is old and has been sharpened a lot the gap you see leaving the point exposed is probably from sharpening away half the blade.

Sorry, I am attempting to link this post to the pictures I took. There are 3 photos and I have the knife open & closed. If this doesn't work, email me privately at stephhouse at hotmail and I can send it to you . thanks for all the help. BTW I tried cleaning it out and all there was were dust bunnies.

this link may not work unless you have a kodak gallery login (free membership)(not promoting...) but I am too poor to upgrade to be able to post through this forum. Thanks again

Does the Kodak gallery give a unique URL for each picture?

If it does you can click on the image button (looks like a mountain with a sun or moon behind) when you are creating a post and copy and paste that URL. That will imbed the pic into your post.

You can adjust the blade to sit lower into the knife. Open the blade and you will see the "kick" that stops the blade from bottoming out. The kick is next to the tang stamp. Remove a small amount of the kick and try opening and closing the blade. Take off a little at a time with a file.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I will try your suggestion Tom but knowing me I'll wind up cutting myself before I get it to the right amount to keep it closed. hee hee. Thanks Codger for getting the pics up. I really appreciate it. Have a great day all!!

No great thought but 2 or 3 layers of electrical or duct tape would help both you and the knife from geting scrathed up while filing the kick.
