Hi folks.
I have the set of diamond rods for my SM and wondered how one goes about cleaning the diamond rods. How long should they last and yes understand the more they are used the more they wear.
Any suggestions would be great.
Regards
Tar :)

Hi Tar, how long the diamond rods last depends on how you use them. If you use too much pressure you can literally strip them out in a day. If you keep the pressure light they will last for years and years. I have a set that is 4 years old and they have probably reprofiled 80-100 knives and they are still going strong. No, they are not quite as aggressive as a new set but they are still very capable and should be good for several more years of service.

As far as cleaning them, I just rinse them with soap and water. They do not require the "scrubbing" that the the ceramic rods need.

Thank you Surfingringo for your comments. I will keep that in mind to use a light touch when I am using them. I will also give them a rinse with some soap and water.
Thanks again.

Hi tar.

I agree on surfingringo.

Use very light preasure.
Wash with water.

I heard you should use lubricant while sharpening.
I tried it last time with water.

But remember, Sharpmaker struggles with reprofiling.
There are fastet ways of doing that.

Bye ric

Thanks again folks for the helpful info. I will sure remember a light touch.

Tar :)
