Hi Again,

Sorry if this is a repeat question , but what is the easiest way to load a strop with bar compound ? I've heard you can heat the leather or heat the bar. Also I assume you can also put to much on. how much should you put on.

Thanks Again ,
Eric

You still want to see the leather so just enough to start to show the color of the bar on the leather.

What you mentioned are both good things to try. I tried it with green chromium oxide on a smooth piece of leather and it did not want to stick. I ended up mixing some of the chromium oxide with mineral oil in a baby food jar and putting over a candle to mix and it turned into a heavy paste. This was easier to get on the strop but didn't do much for me.

I bought some diamond spray which has turned me into a stropping believer on todays high carbide volume 'super steels.'

You can also spray the strop with a little WD40. That helps a lot. How much compound?.... just enough to give the surface a light coating.

ok, I am a noob for sure,,I bought a couple of strops and jsut took the green bar compound and rubbed it over the leather,,kinda like coloring with a crayon until it was a light green,,I can tell you it works just fine for me,,I get great shiny, sharp edges with it,,jsut my $.2

just make sure you don't have clumps of compound.

That's what I did with mine. I had a bar of white "rouge" and just colored in the strop.works great!
