How tough are cold steel knives?

Or more specifically, the zytel ti lite (4 inch). Can it take a beating? I have one on the way (along with a kershaw skyline :D) and I was wondering if I should actually use it as a tactical knife, or just use it as a wall hanger?

Thanks

It's certainly tough enough! Just a specialized design, so there's not much general utility for it. If you can find a good task, go for it! I know construction workers and farmers in our area like to use them to open large bags for feed or concrete. :)

You've seen the Cold Steel "proof" videos, right? If not, you're in for a treat. They are even better than the Shamwow and Slapchop infommercials.:D

I can't remember if the Ti-Lite makes an appearance...

what kind of tactical use where you thinking of? For some uses it may be useable for some it may not be optimal.

I have had one and it was pretty tough although perhaps not the best choice for most tasks, but for common tasks it is fine. As long as your definition of a beating involves using it for it's intended purpose and not as a prybar

i've carried a zytel ti-lite for five or six years i guess. it's amazing how quick it opens, i only use the thumbstud for closing it. i've used it at work daily, cutting shrinkwrap off of pallets, and disassembling cardboard. holds an edge pretty well, though i recently convexed mine. for the price it's a good knife... but it'll tear up your pockets. they've recently changed the specs on them, i haven't handled a new one, so i don't know how the quality is affected.
