Last night I watched a report on Dateline NBC regarding pickup trucks and SUV's about how they are marketed as being tough and able to handle anything that comes their way. They showed that some of the top models got severely damaged when exposed to a 5 mile an hour bump (in a parking lot setting)and were estimated to have very high repair costs.
I began to think about the many knife ads stating how tough they are and how they outperform the competition and wondered if there is anyone out there who has had a bad experience with a knife that was supposed to be tough as nails? Have you had an expensive knife end up not being as tough as the maker or company said it was?
For example:
Lock failure?
Blade chipping?
Weak pivots on folders?
Handles coming apart on fixed blades?
I know anyone can have a bad blade slip by, but if so, was it replaced by the company/maker? And, has it changed your opinion about that company's/maker's knives?
