I got my TGLB recently and the coating hasn't worn down i'm wondering how tough the coating is and can I get the coating put back on if it wears off?

Beat the snot out of it, and then send it back to the shop for a respray. Maybe some cool airbrush graphics. A flame job maybe?

Seriously, the coatings are very tough, but they do wear off. It is paint after all. Some colours are hardier than others too. Personally, I love the beat up look.

With the crinkle finish they last longer, as it gets smoother with use. My 711 has a crinkle top and bottom of the blade and nice smooth finish in the middle part from splitting and chopping wood.

Ok so their tough and if it does come off i can get it resprayed for free awesome i've used my knife out camping and just for chores around the house the still good but ill probably have to get it resprayed sometime I like the beat up look but i use my knife near salt water so i need it resprayed so it won't rust.

That green moss stuff is pretty tough as is Bama Clay.

The old desert tan stuff was the easiest to wear off.

No, they won't respray it for free. But it can be resprayed. If you use it near salt water, I'd recommend you keep it oiled when it's not in use. Just as a preventative measure.

The coating will actually keep it less prone to rust even after it has apparently worn off. IF you use it that much it shouldn't rust enough to matter anyway. Besides, the edge is the area that you need to worry about most. On my knives (uncoated ones of any brand) I just use a scotchbrite pad whenever I start seeing some spots and then you can just oil it down or use some of the new items available like Tuff Cloth or even ren wax.

The coating is tough, but it varies from one color (and versions of the color) to another. None of the coatings are anywhere near as tough as what is underneath though, so if you beat the coating off of it, you can either strip it the rest of the way, leave it with the well worn look or send it in for a spa treatment for a fee.

New or very close to it

Stripped & scotchbrite buffed (with a new one for comparison)

At the last place I worked we built rock crawlers, the owner started having the rock sliders and axles sent out and coated with this same kind of crinkle coat (looks identical) I was blown away at how strong it was. we spent a weekend in moab rock crawling and the whole weight of the rigs would slide around on rock (sandstone) and only in a few very small spots it made it to the metal.. most of the scratches just smudged the crinkle a bit...VERY STRONG
