How tough is the Small Sebbie?

I have both a large sebbie and a plain small. I only carry my small as a gents folder and it's always in it's leather pouch. When I look at the Large, it just oozes strength and toughness, but the small, while of obvious quality its seems to me much more delicate. I never use the small for anything other than very, very minor cutting, just the baby stuff. Is my worry justified or am I just being paranoid?

I carried a small vines for awhile and I found it to be every bit as tough as the large sebenza, only its just in a smaller package. I am talking about the regular as I dont have much experience with the 21 style, but I am sure they are both similar. I do feel the small and large regular have much tougher blades because they are more of a drop point, than a clip point. I believe clip point would be more prone to breakage. But anything CRK makes if of high quality, its just my opinion that the regular is a tougher sebbie. I edc a large regular s I am pretty used to that, but when I sent my rgular in for customization at CRK, I carried the small vines. Its an awsome little knife and much more sheople friendly. But I do not think it lacks toughness. I have also carried and used the mnandi for some time and feel it far tougher than people give it credit for.

The part of the blade that is most prone to breaking would be the blade. I don't ever see the handle slabs breaking or even bending or the lock failing unless it was run over by a train. I can, however, see the blade failing in a prying situation. In every other case, the blade will hold up to whatever you can throw at it. I'm not trying to be facetious but as long as you don't pry with your Seb, the knife won't fail on you. Sebenzas are very tough knives, but they do have limitations. I guess what I'm trying to say is, CARRY YOUR SMALL SEB :D:thumbup:;)

The large sebenza has slightly thicker handle slabs, but the blade thickness is the same between the two.

Yeah.. I think you're paranoid. :D
Chris Reeve knives deserve to be beaten senseless.
Chris didn't make Sebbies out of Surgical Stainless and plastic for a reason.
:p
BUT... I can understand the fear of using a more expensive knife.
SO>... go out, buy a $1000 folder and carry your small seb. You'll feel better about beating it.

You're paranoid. Carry it and scratch it up. In fact, the more scratches the better

Yeah, that!!!

Every knife is prone to breaking when used to pry. Anything from a $2 flea market special all the way up to knives costing $1000's of dollars. I would think a higher end one would be more prone to breakage because of the harder steels involved that were disigned to hold an edge, while a cheap flea market special would bend because they hold an edge as good as a plastic knife you use on a picnic.. If you use your sebenza, large or small for its intended purpose "cutting", it will last your life time for sure and probably many others. If you wanna pry, use a "pry bar'', if you wanna cut, use your sebenza !!!

I've used my Small CCG Sebenza to baton through firewood (4 logs or so). It was all I had with me at the time and I NEEDED to get a fire going. It did just fine. The blade had no chipping, just needed to be touched up on the strop.

FYI this was the ONLY time I ever put my benza through that kind of treatment. Usually its just envelopes and boxes. So overall, I am VERY happy to know what my Small Benza CAN do if need be.

So, USE that small Sebenza!!! :D

The original poster never said anything about prying.
As far as steels go... well... you really ought to read up. The best steels available today, including S30V are intended to have both hardness AND strength. That's part of why people pay much more for these knives.

Now that's what I call Sebenza ABUSE!:D You're being paranoid. First off they can cut through thick coax and cat5 cables with no chipping or other problems. Second if you scratch it up you can always send it in for refurb. That's why they have that service available so take advantage of it. A lot of other companies don't refurb.

Now thats toughness. I think you would be hard pressed to find a knife as small as the small sebbie ( not thats its small ) this tough.

Thats why I bought a small plain 21 to take over EDC duties while the small CCG sits at home! Its really because of that night and a few other things that made that particular sebenza so special to me. I can't stand the thought of losing it (thought I did for a few weeks).

So long story short. Small Sebenza will work like a champ..so go out and USE IT!
