I was browsing the web for some custom BK7's and stumbled upon this awesome creation.

My question is how in the hell did they do it? I've dreamed of what a Becker Bayonet would look like and this here is perfect. I'm stumped on how they got the bayonet crossguard fixed to the knife. Anyway hopefully you guys can help me figure this one out.

Yup, you'll need a BK7 and an old M7 bayonet. It'll take a bit of cutting and some welding. Follow the link that AC provided. I can guarantee you're smarter than both Todd and myself, but if you've got questions we'll lend a hand.

Wouldn't welding mess with the heat treatment?

I'd assume you could affix some kind of heat sink like two bars of aluminium to draw off some of the heat.

Then also if you're welding nearer to the handle than the actual blade it would less interfere with the heat treat.

WHAT!?!

That's insane! So awesome. Just read through the whole original thread.

Huge props to Todd and Murph on the work they did.

The question is: Did anyone ever fire the 556 with the bayonet mounted to it...?:D

Is that a Becker Bayonet for stabbing a Tank or Armoured Vehicle when you run out of heavy ammo and need to go all Rambo on an enemy??

Put together and multiplied by the population of Bolivia.

Not to hijack this thread, but that reminded me of my favorite Mike Tyson quote, when they asked him what his future plans were right after he got whooped by Lennox Lewis-

"I don't know, man," he said. "I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian."

A.S. I see someone already provided the link. Yeah I did this one some time ago. My buddy Murph came to me and said I want this knife BK7 made into a bayonet. Not usually what I do but I thought it was a cool project.

To answer your question about the welding effecting the heat treat. Well, only the back is welded. The Becker knives get softer the further you get away from the blade. So, I was in no danger of screwing up the HT by welding the rear. It was welded in place then molded by hand. The front however, a little different story. I took the stock ring off the bayonet Murph provided and milled a slot into it to fit the blade, then it was silver soldered into place. Silver solder is very strong and uses very little heat compared to welding for a lot shorter amount of time. No harm done to the heat treat whatsoever. I know, I tested it on my rockwell. Ive also used this process on other Becker mods ive done. Like a hollow handled BK14 survival knife.

Really overall, nothing to complicated, especially if you have to tools to do so.

Excellent point Ark. Our kind ain't real good with cameras are we. :D wink wink!
