How well are your bottles holding up?

There was a thread in the gadgets and gear section about the GSI cups splitting after continued usage. I was wondering if you guys that have the steel water bottles like the Kleen Kanteen for a while have noticed any problems from lots of use over campfires. I'm trying to pare down my gear for casual summer dayhikes and would like to ditch my Nalgene/nesting cup combo for just a bottle. I'm thinking the 27oz Kleen Kanteen because it's a good size and will fit in my cup holder in my car for around town use.

Edit: As an aside, would there be any issue with using Iodine or Micropur tabs in a 27 oz bottle? Not sure if the extra 5 oz would make a difference as far as having the chemicals be too concentrated.

I don't carry steel water bottles, but I can comment on the latter question. You'll certainly taste the iodine or micropur more, but it shouldn't be a problem otherwise. In fact, you won't have to wait as long before you can drink it as compared to a 32oz.

27oz seems like very little water personally unless you stop and refill along the way. I carry a 48oz nalgene for even short summer hikes and I tend to finish it. In very hot weather or anything more than 3 hours, I take both of my 48oz bottles. Then again, I'm in New Jersey and there isn't anywhere good to refill.

I love my Klean Kanteens. I have two of the 27oz and two of the 64oz monsters. All have held up well to abuse. I had one lid go bad on my 64oz... but that was an excuse to buy their cool D-ring lids. They fit perfectly in a Maxpedition 12x5 bottle holder. With enough room for a round tin kit at the bottom.

I have two 64 oz Kleen Kanteens that have sat in hot coals, hung over flames, used on my isobutune and alcohol stoves quite a bit and no problems.
The 64oz fits perfect in a Tad Gear Round Pouch with room up top or bottom for a fuel can.

Thanks. Yeah it's not much but it's perfect for the short park hikes I'm taking right now. Anything serious and I break out the daypack and carry two liters which seems plenty for what I'm doing.

I use Kleen Kanteens at home and yard , but realistically I only use the non-BPA 1 ltr. plastic Nalgenes in the bush. I don't need to boil water in them ,just carry drinking water. I always use a separate pot for boiling. I like the fact that they don't dent and that the cap is attached. They don't seem to sweat as much either ; a good point if your putting it in a backpack.
