How well does ATS-34 hold an edge?

I have this custom Bud Nealy in ATS-34 and I never use it to cut anything. Along part of the edge it looks like it's a little bury and I can't tell if it's from the Kydex sheath or it is from one of my friends testing how sharp the knife is by running the edge across part of his hand. Do you think I should have this resharpened or do think it's still sharp?

In my experiance, ATS34 hold an edge very well. I have a Benchmade 350 in ats34 and it was my edc for 2 years. I sharpened it maybe 3 or 4 times, and it is currently hair poppin' sharp. It was bumped out o EDC by my small s30v sebbie.

If the edge went dull from a brief contact with your friends hand the steel is junk. Test the sharpness of the blade on some slight paper, newsprint works well. A highly sharpened blade can push cut straight into it. This won't dull any decent knife either.

ATS-34 is a very good all around cutlery steel. Your knife may need to be sharpened, but it should work well when you get it there.

ATS34 & 154CM are pretty much my favorite steels right now. Has a good balance between sharpening ease and edge holding--just the way I like it.

Totally agree...I have a Strider EBS in ATS-34 and adore it to death...:D

ONE MORE vote for ats34/154cm. It has proven itself to me in a variety of flavors...

I have a few CRKs to compare to, and I prefer ats34 to BG42 and S30V. It holds an edge *almost* as well as these two, but it sharpens MUCH easier. IMO it is worth the tradeoff.
